When a driver veers across the median and drifts into oncoming lanes, others nearby may have little to no time to react and steer to safety. When this occurs on a two-lane road, avoiding a potential disaster may prove nearly impossible and the outcome of an ensuing head-on crash could prove catastrophic in nature. Four individuals were killed during a recent head-on car accident that occurred on a two-lane road in New York.
According to reports, law enforcement agents responded to the scene of a head-on collision just before midnight on a recent Friday. Reports indicate that two vehicles were heading in separate directions on a two-lane road when one of the vehicles apparently drifted across the median and collided head-on with the second vehicle. The crash reportedly caused both vehicles to catch on fire and authorities say that one car continued to burn for several hours after the crash.
Reports indicate that four individuals suffered fatal harm and passed away at the site of the collision. While the incident remains under investigation, no further information was provided as to which one of the vehicles may have veered into oncoming lanes and caused the crash to occur. In some cases, it may take little more than a momentary bout with distraction to prompt similar results and during nighttime hours, lack of visibility or improper use of headlights may also prove dangerous.
Surviving family members
Dealing with the loss of a loved one in a car accident can be a daunting process, especially if it comes as a result of another party’s actions. Surviving family members who suffer such a loss might choose to retain the services of an experienced attorney for advice in evaluating all their available legal avenues and in determining the best course of action with which to proceed. While there may be nothing that can replace what was lost, a successful legal claim could help provide a person with much-needed restitution during a potentially emotional and challenging time in life.
