Sometimes it may take little more than a moment of distraction or a brief bout with fatigue for a driver to lose control of a vehicle and create a hazardous scenario. The fallout of this moment could also prompt a chain reaction of events that could pose a significant threat to the safety and lives of everyone nearby. A recent car accident that forced a vehicle to veer off the road and into a group of nearby pedestrians in New York has claimed the lives of two individuals and left several others with injuries.

Chain reaction crash

Law enforcement agents reportedly responded to the scene of the crash at around 1 p.m. on a recent Monday. They advised that the incident began when a driver suddenly lost control of a car just before crossing into an intersection. The car reportedly proceeded to run through a red traffic light and crash into a second vehicle. The impact of the crash forced the second vehicle to veer onto a nearby sidewalk and hit several pedestrians.

Reports indicate that several pedestrians were transported to the hospital with severe injuries, one of whom remains in critical condition. Unfortunately, two of these individuals passed away shortly after arriving at the facility. Authorities have advised that the driver of the first car was taken into custody and they say that charges are pending against this individual.

Where to turn for guidance

While no one should have to suffer severe harm or sudden loss in a car accident due to the negligent actions of another party, similar issues continue to affect the lives of many. Individuals in New York who face similar hardships and remain uncertain of the next steps to take could benefit from consulting with a personal injury attorney for guidance on their options. An attorney can assess every aspect of a client’s situation and help prepare to protect his or her interests by creating a strategy to seek the full amount of restitution deserved through the proper channels.
