It is important to look at car accident rates simply to understand the risks that you face on the road. While everyone technically knows that driving is dangerous, many people do not realize just how hazardous it is. Teen drivers
Generally speaking, drivers between 16 and 19 have the highest fatal accident rate. This does not mean that they cause the greatest number of serious accidents overall. There are far more drivers in their 20s, 30s and 40s, for example. But despite the fact that teen drivers are a small age bracket, their fatal crash rate is disproportionately high.
As far as staying safe yourself is concerned, the best thing you can do is be a defensive driver. You cannot control those around you, and there is always a chance that you are sharing the road with a teen driver who may be inexperienced and prone to making serious mistakes. But if you can pay close attention to the cars around you and anticipate some of these mistakes, you may be able to avoid being involved in a crash.
