A motorcyclist recently suffered injuries in a Queens hit-and-run accident. According to authorities, the crash was one of six or more hit-and-run accidents that had taken place within the prior week in New York City. Police said the number of motorcycle, bicyclist and pedestrian accidents was higher in Nov. 2023 than in Nov. 2022.

Crash details

The New York collision occurred at 29th and Broadway in Astoria on a recent Saturday. Officials said a car driver struck a 26-year-old biker. The motorcyclist and his bike reportedly struck a fruit stand nearby.

Bystanders rushed over to the motorcyclist to help him. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a medical center, where his condition was critical. Authorities reportedly found the car involved in the crash but did not locate the driver at the scene of the accident. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Legal recourse available following the collision

Police may find the car driver involved in the New York accident and determine through their investigation that he or she negligently caused the accident, such as speeding. In this situation, the injured motorcyclist may file a personal injury claim against the driver, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages sustained due to the accident. If the car driver is convicted of a crime in connection with the crash, proof of the conviction may be presented in court to establish liability in the wreck. Once liability is established the court will decide the motorcyclist’s claim for monetary damages.
