Crane collapses are among the deadliest and most serious construction industry hazards. These construction site accidents can easily occur due to improper crane assembly, poor crane maintenance or overloading. Five people believed to be workers at a construction site were injured in a New York crane collapse accident.
Events leading up to the accident
The recent construction site accident took place at about 2:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. According to authorities, a crane was connected to a boom truck and collapsed along Ninth Avenue in Upper Manhattan. Five individuals were injured.
Officials said two of the individuals’ injuries were minor. Meanwhile, the other three individuals’ injuries were serious yet not life-threatening. Sixty emergency medical service workers and firefighters arrived at the scene to assist the injured individuals at the construction site, where an 18-story residential building is being erected.
How a workers’ compensation attorney can help
Crane falls may lead to serious, life-altering injuries such as a traumatic brain injury, a spinal cord injury and lost limbs. Injured construction workers in New York have the right to file workers’ compensation claims for benefits covering their loss of wages and medical bills resulting from on-the-job accidents. A workers’ compensation attorney can help an injured worker file the claim properly; if the claim is denied, the attorney can appeal the decision. The attorney will seek to help the injured worker pursue recovery of the full amount of compensation to which he or she is entitled in light of the injuries suffered.
